Head coach Mike Eaves and the University of Wisconsin released the 2005-06 men's hockey schedule Wednesday, in conjunction with the announcement of the Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic, to be played Feb. 11 at Lambeau Field.
The 35-game slate features 14 meetings against teams that took part in the 2005 NCAA Tournament, including 12 contests against last season's Frozen Four participants.
The docket boasts numerous special events with the College Hockey Showcase, the Badgers Hockey Showdown, the Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic and an exhibition contest against the USA Hockey Under-18 Team dotting the calendar. The Badgers also play host to the 2006 NCAA Men's Frozen Four at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee in early April.
Wisconsin opens the 2005-06 season on Oct. 7-8 by welcoming St. Lawrence, from the ECACHL, to the Kohl Center. After a bye week, UW begins WCHA play at St. Cloud State on Oct. 21-22. The home portion of the WCHA schedule begins the following weekend when Alaska Anchorage comes to the Kohl Center on Oct 28-29.
After visiting 2004-05 national runner-up North Dakota on Nov. 4-5, Wisconsin returns to Madison to host Colorado College and Minnesota State the following two weekends. Wisconsin then travels for the annual College Hockey Showcase the weekend of Thanksgiving. The Badgers will visit Michigan State (Nov. 25) and Michigan (Nov. 26) for the annual event that dates back to 1993. The Wolverines ended the Badgers' season in 2004-05 at the NCAA Midwest Regional. The Showcase precedes the renewal of the Wisconsin-Minnesota rivalry on Dec. 2-3 when the UW heads to Minneapolis for its final road series before the new year.
